THE HOLY, THE HEROIC AND THE HIGHBORN.

St. Urs and St. Victor, Hans Roth, Niklaus von Wengi and Monsieur l’Ambassadeur de France: saints, heroes and the noble have influenced the history and the character of our city between the Jura and the Aare, between the Germanic and French cultures. For the one we built a cathedral, for others bridges, fountains, a town hall. Their traces are found in medieval defences, gables and alleys, baroque facades, elegant villas and the imposing stairway of St Urs Cathedral: stage and spectators’ grandstand in one, and symbol of the Solothurn 11, our sacred number. In brief: we are proud of what we were and are, namely more than the sum of our history and buildings. Solothurn is alive – in colourful markets, festivals and street culture. Experience it with us!
