Solothurn's unique appearance is marked by the many baroque buildings, such as the Palais Besenval, which was the seat of an influential partrician family, or the Jesuit church whose façade King Louis XIV. donated. The Alte Zeughaus and the Ambassadorenhof go back to this period. However, the Cathedral of St. Ursus only displays a few isolated baroque elements.
