Guided tour behind the scenes at Solothurn City Theatre

Description

Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of theatre, take a look at the oldest theatre hall in Switzerland and experience a look behind the scenes with a guided tour.

Baroque meets modern - this is doubly true in Solothurn's municipal theatre: the 17th century building has a long theatre tradition. A renovation of the theatre hall in 1753/54 earned the building a reputation as the most beautiful theatre in Switzerland as early as the 18th century. 20 years later, Felix Joseph Wirz, who also decorated several of the altars in St. Ursen Cathedral, adorned the balustrades of the theatre with baroque frescoes.

Following a comprehensive general refurbishment of the theatre in 2013/14, the restored frescoes in Switzerland's oldest theatre hall shine brightly and will amaze any baroque fan.

On a guided tour of the municipal theatre, you will get a glimpse behind the scenes and go through all the stages of the actors before their performance, from the dressing room to make-up, from the artists' point of view.

Special highlights include a look at the theatre's tailoring department, the baroque theatre hall and the small roof terrace, from where you can enjoy a wonderful view of the city's rooftops and St. Ursen Cathedral.

After the tour, depending on the theatre programme, you can attend a performance or have a drink together in the café-bar.
