Guided tour at Waldegg Castle

Description

The Waldegg Castle is situated on a hill at the foot of the Jura, in the centre of the idyllic area of the baroque town of Solothurn. Inspired by French and Italian architecture, the powerful Solothurn patrician Johann Viktor von Besenval had the magnificent building constructed between 1682 and 1686 as a summer residence. Besenval created a unique baroque ensemble with the castle, the avenues extending far into the landscape and various gardens.

The tour leads through the richly decorated salons with their magnificent paintings and original castle furniture. The life of the castle's owners and their close ties to France are also explained.
