The mission of the Restessbar is to make non-critical food that can no longer be sold but is still edible available free of charge to a broad population and especially to the residents of Solothurn and the surrounding area. For this purpose, the Restessbar makes 12 tours per week and saves about 550 kg of food - in the year about 28.6 tons.
The association Restessbar does not guarantee that all FoodSavers can fill their fridge with the food. They save food from going to waste. If there is little food on a tour, the Restessbar is even happier - because thus the grocery stores would have thrown away less goods, and that is the goal.
This is how it works
- Food is given to FoodSavers free of charge and distributed fairly every evening from Monday - Saturday.
- At drop-off time, numbers are distributed to the FoodSavers in line via random lottery and the food is divided fairly.
