I discovered something special during my visit to Solothurn – eleven, Solothurn's holy number. This number is omnipresent in the city. There are 11 museums, fountains, chapels and churches, and a clock with a dial that only shows 11 hours. There are some particularly interesting facts about the presence of the number 11 on the city's landmark, the St. Ursus Cathedral. It took 11 years to build (1762-1773), the facade is 3 x 11 meters high, the tower measures 6 x 11 meters up to the weathercock, the exterior staircase consists of 3 groups of 11 steps each. The Solothurners even call their beer "Öufi-Bier" (eleven-ale) in German.
