The Solothurn Central Library is a public library.
As a cantonal, city and regional library, the Solothurn Central Library fulfils two main functions: it collects and preserves publications relating to the canton of Solothurn for future generations, and it provides local residents with a wide selection of modern literature and audiovisual media for informational, educational and entertainment purposes.
From picture books in the children’s and youth section to cookbooks, art publications and crime novels, music scores and CDs, there is a huge selection for every reader and listener. The library also offers films on DVD and Blu-ray. Ebooks are available via the eBook+ group. The reading room provides a quiet space in which to concentrate. Specialists at the information counters can help visitors in their search for media resources or with their academic research
The Central Library manages and maintains a large portion of the historical legacy belonging to the canton and the city.
