Christmas Lights Solothurn

Solothurn sparkles in the glow of lights

Christmas lights

The lighting will be switched on the Thursday before 1., Advent.

Solothurn’s Christmas lights were revamped in 2008 and are now setting an example of contemporary Christmas lighting using subtle design and innovative technology. The subtle, tasteful interplay between light and shadows enables the city’s true character to be showcased during the Christmas season.

The Christmas lights are traditionally switched on the Thursday before the first Advent at 7:00 pm. Until January 6, they illuminate the city, transforming Kronengasse, Hauptgasse, Märetplatz, and Gurzelngasse into a sparkling sea of lights. Decorated Christmas trees further enhance the festive atmosphere.

The Advent lights shine daily from 5:00 to 8:30 am and from 4:00 PM to 1:00 am on weekdays. On Saturdays and Sundays, they light up from 2:00 PM to 2:00 am.
