Event details
In the Roman film town of Cinecittà, a little girl is wanted for the leading role in a film. Hundreds expect fame and fortune from this role and bring their children to the casting. So also the spirited Maddalena. She tirelessly tries to give her daughter Maria the best chances with acting lessons, dance training and a new dress. In the end, the mother even sacrifices the last of her saved money in order to obtain benefits for her daughter through a supposed helper. And indeed the miracle happens: Maria is selected for test shots. However, when Maddalena sneaks into the screening room, through the laughter of the film crew, she discovers the shallow side of the industry and realizes what she has put her child through. Luchino Visconti's "Bellissima" from 1951 is a satire on the film industry and also criticizes all systems through which people are robbed of their dreams and exploited. The film classic is being adapted for the stage for the first time and brought to the stage by TOBS in cooperation with the Junges Theater.
