Event details
Kafka has long been described as an existentialist and dystopian author, his literary work as dark and heavy food. The cover of the first edition of Kafka's complete works published by Fischer was in a revealing glossy black: one could make out the retouched portrait of the author planting his severe and cold gaze in that of the reader. Still, Kafka's peals of laughter were legendary! According to testimonies from the time, there was a joyful atmosphere during the readings and it was often the author himself who laughed the hardest. This prompted Max Merker and Aaron Hitz to take issue with the common public reception of Kafka. Through a storytelling technique that is both physical and poetic, completely unique in its genre and that the public already knows thanks to productions like “All you can be!” or "Lachen verboten!", the two accomplices seize the comic genre, the slapstick and the grotesque for a new approach: inspired by his correspondence, his stories, fragments of novels and diaries, they track down the comic, absurd and grotesque elements in Kafka's work.
