Theatergasse 16-18, 4500 Solothurn
Based on the graphic novel by Liv Strömquist
Veranstaltungsdetails
We live in a world of images: we document our lives with photos and videos on social networks, advertising is based on images that entice us to consume, and we even choose potential life partners based on pictures. Philosopher Susan Bordo said as long ago as 2003 that we were living in a veritable "image empire".
In her latest graphic novel "Im Spiegelsaal", Swedish author Liv Strömquist analyzes how the tyranny of visual media influences our self-image, our perception of beauty and our competitive spirit. In doing so, Strömquist combines philosophical discourse with observations drawn from contemporary pop culture. Thus, by comparing two phenomena considered "beautiful", she poses the following question: why don't young women feel the same emotion at the sight of influencer Kylie Jenner as they do in front of a sunset?
Through an intergenerational collaboration, Joëlle Anina Müller and the team of the Young Theater adapt this work for the stage, examining the extent to which we may be missing out on life's true beauty by constantly looking in the mirror.
