ORPHÉE ET EURIDICE
Veranstaltungsdetails
Orpheus' pain knows no bounds when he loses his great love Eurydice. His grief softens the gods: they allow him to descend into the underworld to free his wife from the shadow world. The permission is, however, conditional: If he wants Eurydice back, he must not look for her on the way back. But because Orpheus does not look at her, Eurydice believes that Orpheus no longer loves her. Orpheus loses his composure for a moment - and turns around to look at her ... "Orphée et Euridice" was premiered in Paris in 1774 with sensational success. Pierre-Louis Moline wrote the libretto based on the Italian-language original by Ranieri de' Calzabigi. The highly emotional and yet so simple musical language of Christoph Willibald Gluck thrilled audiences then as it does today. Anna Drescher ("White Rose", "Dido and Aeneas", "Zaïs") directs, Tatjana Ivschina ("Zaïs") is responsible for the set. The conductor is the celebrated baroque specialist Jan Tomasz Adamus.
