The St. Ursus Cathedral is the landmark of the city of Solothurn.
Standing on the top step of the famous Pisoni exterior staircase in front of the main facade of the St. Ursus Cathedral gave me a really uplifting sensation. The stairs are lined with fountains decorated with the figures of Moses and Gideon. In the chancel of the early classical cathedral, built of light Solothurn marble (Jura limestone) is the striking high altar (in the form of a sarcophagus) by Carlo Luca Pozzi. The northern sacristy contains the cathedral treasures including the Hornbach Sacrament, which can be admired on a guided tour.
