Martina Strähl

Martina Strähl is a Swiss mountain and long-distance runner. She is a multiple world and European champion in mountain running and a marathon runner with a CH record in the half marathon.

Hiking and Solothurn are both on-trend right now: lovely paths, great trails and a variety of peaks to roam. Gone is the stale image of hiking, leaving instead our joy in nature’s unforgettable beauty.

Both hiking and Solothurn are trending: the journey is the destination.

I’m Martina Strähl, I have a Master’s degree in Psychology and I work at a primary school. I’m a multiple world and European mountain running champion and I also hold the Swiss record for the half marathon. I aim to compete in the 2020 Olympics.

Favourite spot: One of my favourite spots in Solothurn is the Weissenstein, the town’s local mountain.

I often train there, soak in the views over Solothurn, and then take the cable car back down.

Solothurn is perfect for a sportswoman like me, with the Aare, forests and beautiful Jura mountains, where I’m free to explore nature by foot or on my bike. The little town, with its range of shops and restaurants, draws me in again and again – it’s a great place to shop, stroll, eat and relax. Solothurn also has a broad programme of sporting and cultural events and activities.
