Solothurn is ideal for families: old ruins full of knight's armour, natural surroundings and an enigmatic old town. It’s great to see kids enjoying museums, exploring nature and discovering an exciting city.
It’s a handsome, orderly little town but it has a very active creative scene – I really feel in my element here.

I’m Simon «Simu» Fankhauser, I’m a singer, story-writer and the creator of the famous kids’ character Pumpelpitz, who lives on the Weissenstein. Together with the a capella group ‘bagatello’, I won the Prix Walo award and toured Switzerland for 11 years.
Favourite spot: The St. Ursus Cathedral, or ‘Solothurn Cathedral’
It’s a handsome, modest little town but it has a very active creative scene – I really feel in my element here. Solothurn has been a constant mainstay in my life, whether as my home or as a base for my cultural work and projects. Solothurn is very family friendly – a great destination for an inspiring holiday with active, curious kids. Once you’ve experienced it, you’ll be coming back again and again.
