Solothurn’s appeal is clear to see: from the Jura meadows to the river Aare and the castles – this exciting region is full of breath-taking scenery, perfect for hiking, boat trips and bike rides.

It’s best to come by boat or from the mountains, with views of the cathedral and the Aare river.

My name is Thomas Mühlethaler and I grew up in Lengnau. After 25 years, I came back to the region and took the helm of the BSG Lake Biel Navigation Company as Managing Director. You can normally find me on the water or in the mountains.

Favourite spot: The weekly market in Solothurn’s old town has an immensely relaxing atmosphere.

Solothurn really ba-ROCKs Switzerland. The town boasts unique architecture, an exciting programme of music and theatre and a diverse and original range of restaurants. It is also home to the contemporary ‘Filmtage’ and ‘Literaturtage’ events and the spectacular ‘Bike Days’ festival. Make your way there by boat or from the mountains, with views of the cathedral and the Aare. Then – enjoy your stay!
