The Solothurn Doll and Toy Museum showcases an extraordinary private collection of historical dolls and toys dating from 1870 to 1950. The exhibits are not arranged chronologically but are set up in carefully staged scenes. Each object tells its own story and invites visitors on a journey of discovery into the world of play from days gone by.
The exhibition brings together dolls, toy stores, dollhouses, apothecaries, kitchens, stuffed animals, and numerous original accessories. The majority of the exhibits date from before 1930. Special attention is given to the detailed staging, which brings historical play scenes to life.
Sasha Morgenthaler
A special highlight is the collection of original dolls by the Bernese artist Sasha Morgenthaler (1893–1975). Her expressive, one-of-a-kind pieces are considered milestones in European doll art. It is likely the largest private collection open to the public. Worldwide. There are over 70 exhibits by Sasha Morgenthaler. They offer a unique insight into the work of this extraordinary artist.
