I’m Ernst Wettstein, a tour guide in Solothurn. My parents moved to Solothurn from Bern when I was 11 and I’ve loved this town ever since. Everything is easy to reach. Lots of things have stayed the same, but we’ve welcomed lots of changes, too.

Favourite spot: I start in front of Solothurn Cathedral and lead my group up its three lots of 11 steps to show them the marketplace and tell them about the rich patrician families that used to live on Kronenplatz.

The tours change every time – that’s what makes Solothurn so exciting. As well as the ‘Old town’ tour, I also love the ‘Savoir Vivre’ tour, the restaurant tour (‘Genuss-Tour’) and the ‘Route Gourmande’ event, which takes place just once a year. On the ‘Scooter and e-bike’ tour, visitors get to explore the region surrounding Solothurn, including the stunningly beautiful Waldegg Castle.
